Snap's Specs Smart Glasses to Launch in September

Snap, the parent company of Snapchat, is set to launch its highly anticipated Specs smart glasses in September. The device will be priced at $2,195, significantly higher than most Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses, but lower than Apple's Vision Pro.

During an earnings call, CEO Evan Spiegel sidestepped investor questions on pre-order demand, citing the need for hands-on experience. "What we're hearing from folks is really that they want to try Specs," Spiegel said. "It's obviously a high consideration purchase... I think for the broader public and consumers, it's going to be really important for folks to go hands-on."

The high price tag has raised eyebrows, with some analysts questioning Snap's financial viability, given the company's size and the high price of Specs. However, Snap believes the long-term opportunity for the next computing platform is enormous, and is willing to take on the competition from Apple, Meta, and Alphabet.
