Valve Opens Steam Machine Reservations with Complicated Process

Valve has opened reservations for the Steam Machine, a PC gaming system designed to bring Steam's library of games to the living room. The system starts at $1,049 for a 512GB variant and $1,349 for a 2TB variant. However, getting one is a bit complicated.

A lottery system is in place to prevent scalpers, with sign-ups ending on June 25. The sign-up process involves choosing from four different options: the Steam Machine 512GB, the Steam Machine 512GB with Steam Controller, the Steam Machine 2TB, and the Steam Machine 2TB with Steam Controller. Each option has its own sign-up list, and users can sign up for multiple options if they want.

The Steam Machine will be shipped in four regions: North America, the UK, the EU, and Australia. Reservations will be assigned randomly, with those in the reservation queue able to purchase the Steam Machine on June 29. Those on the waitlist will be able to buy one later.

Valve's decision to use a reservation system is intended to make the process more fair and harder for bots to exploit. However, the process may be confusing for some users.
