  • ChatGPT Atlas users can opt for alternative AI browsers like Perplexity's Comet, Dia, or Opera Neon

OpenAI has announced the discontinuation of ChatGPT Atlas, its AI-powered browser. The decision comes as the company shifts its focus towards improving agentic web use features within the ChatGPT desktop app. ChatGPT Atlas was designed to allow users to interact with their web browser through chat, but it failed to gain significant traction. As a result, OpenAI has chosen to sunset the project, with deprecation scheduled for August 9.

Alternative AI browsers are available, including Perplexity's Comet, Dia from The Browser Company, and Opera Neon. Additionally, OpenAI's ChatGPT Chrome extension can be used in Chromium-based browsers, providing some of the same functionality as ChatGPT Atlas.

The discontinuation of ChatGPT Atlas is part of a series of announcements from OpenAI, including the introduction of GPT-Live, a new generation of voice models, and ChatGPT Work, a ChatGPT agent with built-in Codex.
