Meta's AI Image Generator Raises Privacy Concerns on Instagram

Meta's new AI image generator, Muse Image, has been integrated into Instagram, allowing users to create AI-powered effects for Stories and direct chats. The feature, announced on Tuesday, uses advanced reasoning to understand complex prompts and seamlessly blend multiple photos into high-quality creations.

However, the update has raised concerns about privacy and potential abuse. Public Instagram accounts are automatically opted in to be used in AI remixes, allowing anyone to tag a public account's profile and use Meta AI to generate an image based on their likeness.

To opt out of this feature, users can flip two toggles in the Instagram app. To access these settings, users need to open the Instagram app, tap their profile, and then tap the hamburger menu icon at the top right of the screen. From there, users can scroll down to the Sharing and Reuse settings and toggle off the option to allow people to create with and reuse their content.

While the feature may sound useful, it has sparked concerns about the potential for abuse and the impact on user privacy. As Meta continues to develop and integrate AI-powered features into its platforms, it will be important to monitor and address these concerns to ensure that users' rights are protected.
