Apple Seeds iOS 27.3 Beta with China AI, Health App Return

WireByte Staff · November 4, 2026

Apple released the first iOS 27.3 developer beta, reintroducing the redesigned Health app with a Longevity tab and Health Age metric. The update brings Apple Intelligence features to China via Alibaba’s Qwen model, expands StandBy mode customization to iPhone 11 and newer, and adds Gym Strength workouts to Apple Fitness+. The public release is scheduled for December.

Key points

  • Apple released iOS 27.3 beta 1 on November 3, 2026, reintroducing the redesigned Health app previously removed from iOS 27.2.
  • The update introduces Apple Intelligence capabilities in China, powered by Alibaba’s Qwen model, including live translation and writing tools.
  • StandBy mode customization options, originally exclusive to the iPhone Duo, are now available for iPhone 11 and newer models.
  • Apple Fitness+ adds a Gym Strength feature that generates personalized four-week workout plans based on user goals and equipment.
  • Audio Intelligence features for Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, including Siri Recap and Live Rewind, are available in the beta.
  • The full public release of iOS 27.3 is expected in December, following the recent rollout of iOS 27.2.

Apple Expands Software Testing with iOS 27.3 Beta

Apple has released the first developer beta of iOS 27.3, marking the beginning of a new testing cycle ahead of the update’s planned public launch in December. The software update reintroduces significant features that were previewed in earlier betas but removed prior to the stable release of iOS 27.2. Among the most notable additions is the return of the redesigned Health app, which Apple initially tested in the iOS 27.2 beta cycle before reverting to the previous version for the October release. The company confirmed that the upgraded Health experience will ship with iOS 27.3, bringing enhanced data visualization and AI-driven insights to users.

Health App and Longevity Metrics Return

The redesigned Health app in iOS 27.3 introduces two central new tabs: Insights and Longevity. The Insights tab provides holistic summaries of heart, sleep, readiness, fitness, vitals, and cycle tracking data, paired with dynamic health content and clinical expert guidance. A dedicated For You section offers intelligent recommendations tailored to daily habits, such as adjusting wind-down routines after interrupted sleep. The Longevity tab analyzes longitudinal metrics across seven categories, including heart health, sleep, mental wellbeing, movement, metabolic health, hearing, and nutrition.

A key feature of the Longevity tab is Health Age, which translates data from Apple Watch—including VO2 max, resting heart rate, sleep, and heart rate variability—into a metric reflecting how a user’s body tracks relative to their chronological age. Users can also incorporate clinical laboratory data to refine this assessment. Additionally, the app features a redesigned Vitals section with overnight and daytime views, and adds Heart Rate Variability (HRV) as a specific metric, distinguishing between overall HRV and recovery HRV. Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 wearers will see their readiness score directly in the Insights tab.

Apple Intelligence Arrives in China

In a significant regional expansion, iOS 27.3 beta 1 brings Apple Intelligence features to China for the first time. This development follows Apple’s partnership with Alibaba and approval from Chinese regulators, allowing the integration of Alibaba’s Qwen model into Apple’s AI suite. While Siri AI remains unavailable in the region due to reliance on Google models not accessible in China, a wide array of other capabilities are now live for beta testers.

These features include real-time translation across Messages, FaceTime, and the Phone app, as well as with compatible AirPods. Writing tools for rewriting, proofreading, and summarizing text are available, along with Visual Intelligence for identifying objects and places. Users can also utilize Clean Up in Photos, Genmoji for custom emoji creation, and natural language search in Photos. The update adds email summaries, smart replies, and priority notifications in the Mail app, as well as notification summaries and audio transcription in the Notes app. Siri improvements include Type to Siri and more natural language support, with Siri able to relay requests to Qwen for in-depth answers.

StandBy Mode and Fitness Expansions

iOS 27.3 also expands the StandBy mode experience beyond the iPhone Duo. Previously exclusive to the Duo’s redesigned interface, new Analog and Digital Clock faces with enhanced customization options for colors and complications are now available for iPhone 11 and newer models. The update adds Calendar and Weather faces, and allows users to select Shared Albums for the Photos face. iPhone 11 and newer users can create multiple versions of the same StandBy face and swipe between them.

Apple Fitness+ receives a new Gym Strength workout plan. This feature generates a four-week program based on user goals, experience, schedule, and available equipment. The plans adapt weekly based on logged reps and weight, offering recommendations for exercises, sets, and load. The feature supports over 350 exercises across more than 30 types of equipment and is available on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch.

Audio Intelligence and Safari Updates

For Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, iOS 27.3 beta 1 introduces Audio Intelligence features, including Siri Recap and Live Rewind. These tools use the watch’s microphone to capture nearby conversations, turning them into bullet points or transcripts of the last 15 seconds. Apple states that audio is processed on-device and not stored, though the features have drawn attention from legal experts regarding eavesdropping laws. Safari gains vertical tabs, adaptive dark mode, and improved password security features. iPadOS 27.3 adds Siri Mode in the Camera app and Visual Intelligence with Apple Pencil support.

Key takeaways

  • Apple released iOS 27.3 beta 1 on November 3, 2026, with a public launch expected in December.
  • The redesigned Health app returns, featuring a Longevity tab and Health Age metric based on Apple Watch data.
  • Apple Intelligence features powered by Alibaba’s Qwen model are now available in China, excluding Siri AI.
  • StandBy mode customization options are expanded to iPhone 11 and newer models.
  • Apple Fitness+ adds Gym Strength, a personalized four-week workout planning feature.
